AVIC Aerodynamics Research Institute (i.e. 626 Institute) is the first high-speed and low-speed aerodynamics research institute in China and has participated in the research and production of virtually all key models of airplanes. As a key scientific research enterprise in the aviation sector, it engages in the basic technical and application researches of aerodynamics, design and technical research of airplane aerodynamics, CFD technical researches and applications and technical researches of wind tunnel test.
High-performance computation plays an important role in the simulation sector today and many emerging subjects utilize this as the base of calculation. This solution is expected to provide one stable, reliable and high-performance computing system for 626 Institute and satisfy its computation needs for extra-large-scale simulation applications.
Analysis of application features
The HPC cluster of this project will be mainly used for the material computation, structure computation, hydraulic computation, aerodynamic computation and finite element computation of 626 Institute. The main software includes Ansys, Fastran, Abaqus, DYNA and other commercial software and self-developed simulation programs.
Inspur has one professional HPC application analysis team which has performed a detailed analysis and survey of client applications and utilized unique test tools to acquire the hardware platform needs and provide a professional application white paper.
To satisfy project requirements, Inspur launched Tiansuo TS10000 high-performance server cluster characterized by its outstanding performances, leading power control, convenient and easy monitoring and management system, open and scalable system and well-established service system. Moreover, the widely acclaimed Inspur high-performance cluster training service system provides an additional asset to this project and helps to eliminate the users’ concerns.
A total of 96 NX5440 blade computing nodes are provided, including 2 Nx5440 fat computing nodes and 6 blade cabinets I8000; meanwhile, one management node, one Inspur TSExaStor parallel storage system and one Inspur AS500E full-fiber storage system are also provided.
High-performance computing system shall satisfy the performance needs of scientific computing and its architecture shall satisfy the application features. Considering the limited military industrial research budget, the HPC system shall satisfy the performance requirements of scientific computation and its price shall remain affordable. Inspur not only provides the best hardware performances to 626 Institute, but also offers timely, satisfactory and high-level services through optimization of system software, application node and operating system.
