(PRNewswire) Inspur launched K-DB database in Beijing on November 5th. K-DB is a custom-designed and optimized database for the TS K1 platform, jointly developed by Inspur and Tmaxsoft, Korea’s largest software provider.
With advanced functions such as high-availability to cluster and remote disaster recovery, and product performance and reliability equivalent to mainstream products, K-DB can be widely used for critical business solutions, such as large-scale transaction systems. Earlier, IBM DB2 and SAP Sybase successively released database versions that supported the TS K1 platform.
1. A “new member” in hosting ecosystem
K-DB’s launch will further strengthen Inspur’s hosting ecosystem. Through severl years of efforts, TS K1’s hosting ecosystem has grown more robust and has several middleware, databases and other platform software providers in its fold, such as IBM, SAP, Dameng, Kingbase and Gbase.
Inspur Group’s Vice President Peng Zhen said that, with DB2, Sybase and Informix supporting TS K1, key business systems for several enterprise customers have been setup with these partners. However, many Inspur customers use Oracle databases, as they have a real need for heterogeneous database platform migration. The need for a database product with similar architecture, simple migration, high reliability and high performance, is the reason why Inspur released K-DB.
2. Rivaling mainstream databases
Adopting technologies such as multi-process, multi-thread, multi-version data concurrency control and storage virtualization, K-DB ensures strong product performance and stability. Clients such as Beijing Archive Bureau, Harbin Bank and Inner Mongolia Department of Transportation have completed product testing and will use K-DB in their production environment. Cooperation partners such as Neusoft, Sinosoft and Tong Tech are also cooperating with Inspur and jointly developing integrated solutions based on K1+K-DB platform.
- KRAC ensures customer business continuity
With advanced functions such as high-availability clustering, KRAC and remote disaster recovery, K-DB can guarantee security. KRAC adopts patented multi-node concurrent recovery technology with faster failure recovery than other products. When a database cluster node fails or is shut down manually, K-DB can perform multi-node recovery operation simultaneously, significantly reducing system recovery time.
K-DB’s Recovery Program was also demonstrated during the launch. During the demonstration, the program used Benchmark SQL software to simulate a test case with 1,000 users, 100 warehouses and 10 GB data, and K-DB operated in a dual node RAC; the heartbeat line was manually unplugged as a simulated failure, and the database recovered its external service after a brief fluctuation of less than 5 seconds.
“K-DB only fluctuates briefly in a destructive test, and then maintains continuous operation, establishing the cluster again, and reverts to the original load when the host recovers.” Enmotech’s Founder and Oracle ACE Director Gai Guoqiang expressed excitedly, “Everyone knows that cluster database complexity far surpasses single unit database version, and K-DB does this. KRAC operates effortlessly and this is a miracle.”
- One-key migration reduces migration cost and risk
Inspur has developed a comprehensive K-DB toolkit that can automatically complete migration from Oracle to K-DB, including data structure comparison and SQL statement checks, not only reducing technical migration complexity and workload, but also making migration risk more controllable.
Beijing Archive Bureau had strong concerns regarding their data migration. After a day’s preparation, Beijing digital archive system completed the entire digital archive and 6GB of business data migration in 15 minutes. “After migration, we performed strict testing, and all application systems were operating smoothly without any failure or connectivity problems, and there was significant improvement in performance,” Tian Lei, responsible for Beijing Archive Bureau application system development, shared his experience on K-DB during the launch.
- Fully integrated into mainstream database ecosystem with low application threshold
Comprehensive integration and use of the existing mainstream database ecosystem was the principle followed during K-DB’s design stage. K-DB supports all possible interface standards and also supports Oracle’s non-standard SQL syntax. After migrating data from Oracle to K-DB, the customer doesn’t require any code changes.
K-DB adopts operation commands, interface and SQL standards similar to Oracle. An Oracle DBA’s technical experience and expertise can be applied to K-DB, efficiently reducing DBA learning costs and application threshold.
Zheng Baowei, General Manager of Enhe (Beijing) Information Technology Co., Ltd., expressed that this might be the friendliest database software for DBA. K-DB is characterized by easy migration and simple operations, and operations feel similar to Oracle. Both the DBA and ID developer can easily use K-DB.
3. Scaling-up is inevitable
Scaling-up is an eternal pursuit in the IT industry, and is the core competitiveness for manufacturers. For critical businesses, scaling-up is also considered a best practice to meet key application requirements, and hosting other large computing equipment such as a platform for tightly coupled data processing solutions is still the first choice for mainstream users.
During the summit panel discussion, Gai Guoqiang expressed that centralized OLTP technology remains the only viable technological option for large number of industry users, and data processing platforms based on Inspur’s TS-K1 and K-DB provide another option for customers, moving Chinese users from no option for “IOE” era, into a “post-IOE” option era.
Hu Leijun, Inspur Group’s Vice President expressed that the forward movement from Internet to “Internet+” was a migration process from offline to online, and online-offline combination process for traditional industry users, due to which customers’ core transaction systems faced increasing pressure. Therefore, scale-up is still Inspur’s strategic technological direction, and Inspur will continuously invest in developing and upgrading large-scale critical computing platform storage equipment and relative platform software, to improve industry ecosystem, and provide better options for enterprise customers.
